Description
Burger Waldmuseum is located within the Burger nature experience area, which covers nearly 30 hectares of forest – a rarity in the otherwise tree-scarce Dithmarschen region. The highlight and oldest part of the museum is the observation tower atop the 65-meter-high “Wulfsboom.” The extensive collection of animal specimens illustrates various habitats of the region. Other exhibition themes include nature and species conservation, hunting, geology, paleontology, and archaeology of the area. The ground floor of the exhibition is wheelchair accessible.
A forest nature trail, an herb garden with a barefoot path, and an adventure playground are located nearby. There is a mostly barrier-free round trail through the forest as well as hiking paths through mixed woods and heathland right by the museum.
Guided tours are available by appointment, as are events, courses, lectures, and changing special exhibitions.
