Description

The Burgruine Alt-Hofen is one of Lochau’s oldest landmarks, built in 1281. With its very thick walls and early examples of fortified artillery, it offers a fascinating experience especially for kids interested in history and medieval architecture.

Well preserved are the keep and parts of a castle gate, which invite you to explore tangible historical sites together. Here, families can discover the story of the Knights of Lochen, after whom the community is named, bringing local history to life.

The ruin also tells of its destruction by the Swabians and how its stone was reused for building Schloss Neu-Hofen – exciting stories that greatly enrich your visit. In addition, natural forces like landslides and weather continuously reshape the ruin, creating a living learning environment where you can observe and discuss the power of nature together.
