Description

The Burgruine Runding is the former largest castle complex in the Bavarian Forest, covering an area of about 15,000 m². It includes the outer castle with the castle warden's house and a granary.

Visitors can walk along the almost 400-meter-long accessible defensive wall and experience the medieval fortifications up close.

After decades of decay, the ruins have been extensively restored and opened to the public since 1992.

The archaeological open-air museum on the castle grounds presents the results of scientific excavations led by medieval archaeologist Dr. Bernhard Ernst, bringing history to life.

Exciting legends and stories surrounding the castle provide entertaining experiences for children and families interested in historical fairy tales.

The association Burgfreunde Runding e.V. is actively involved in researching and protecting additional parts of the castle – offering a wonderful community experience for families curious about history.
