Description

The (D)Torfmuseum Gescher takes you on a fascinating journey into the world of peat and its historical uses 🌿. You’ll discover how the moorland and its diverse animal and plant life have changed over time.

At the museum, you can see historic tools, photographs, and eyewitness accounts that vividly document the hard work of peat cutting from the early days through industrialization. At media stations, you can experience exciting stories and information.

You’ll also learn how a peat factory with small workers' settlements developed into today’s Hochmoor district. The museum is run by dedicated volunteers from the Heimatverein Hochmoor e.V., making the visit a community experience.
