New glass front, cabins, and more
EMS BAD Emsbüren has reopened after five months
On April 1st the pool was closed for construction work. Since September 1st, swimmers can now take laps in the pool again.
"We hit the mark perfectly with the renovation," says pool manager Rainer Berk.
There are still some outdoor tasks to complete, but these do not affect operations. "We are insulating the exterior wall and adding 17 centimeters of insulation," Berk explains.
The other work on the pool, built in 1970 and operated by Stadtwerke Schüttorf-Emsbüren, primarily aims to save energy. "The large glass front was previously single-glazed. Now triple glazing has been installed," Berk explains. Maintaining a constant air temperature of 31 degrees in the pool should contribute significantly to energy savings.
The lighting in EMS BAD was completely switched to LED during the renovation. The water filtration system was refurbished as well. Its pumps are now controllable depending on demand. "Previously, they ran at full power all the time, whether needed or not," Berk explains. The ventilation system was also renovated a year ago and has been adjustable since then.
Visitors won't notice much of these energy-saving measures. But some things have changed for them too. "We’ve installed a movable staircase that makes getting in and out easier, especially for older people," says Berk. For club sports, the staircase can be removed from the pool.
The pool edges and walkways have also been redesigned. Cosmetic work was done in the changing rooms and sanitary areas of the pool.
The renovation of the EMS BAD pool in Emsbüren cost 408,000 euros. The state of Lower Saxony contributed 163,000 euros from sports facility funding. Stadtwerke Schüttorf-Emsbüren covered the remaining 245,000 euros. "Most of the work was carried out by companies from the region," emphasizes Berk.
The swimming pool is approximately 16 meters long, eight meters wide, and has a water depth from 0.30 to 1.80 meters. Water-loving kids can brave the wild, winding 6-meter water slide or use one of the three starting blocks to dive into the water.
