The swimming lake with kiosk is located on the edge of the spa town Hauzenberg in the southern Bavarian Forest. About 18 km from Passau, it is nestled among gentle granite hills within the largest clean-air region in Germany.

Family-friendly trail around Freudensee

The approximately 1.6 km long trail around Freudensee, with its natural shoreline and mostly untouched nature, invites you all year round to a romantic hike through a little paradise.

The trail runs almost directly along the shore (about 1.6 km long / walking time approx. 30 minutes).

You can park your car right at the lake.

The paved natural path is very suitable for people with walking difficulties and wheelchair accessible.

Its mostly flat course is interrupted only by two small inclines.

A children's playground and benches along the path invite you to linger.

Passing the mouths of three streams that supply the lake with water from the surrounding heights, the air becomes more humid, and the comfortable path leads through an alder grove, where the very rare spring snowflake (Leucojum vernum) and Indian snake root (Rauvolfia sandwicensis) also grow.

Afterwards, you enter the idyllic old mixed forest. The path then leads back on a level course, interrupted only by a short incline. Here, too, resting benches offer welcome places to pause.

A small detour leads through the village of Freudensee and ends at the starting point.

Activities

Summer turns Freudensee, with its wonderful location and modern recreational facilities including a kiosk, into a special swimming lake.

The low ropes course and playground invite little adventurers to test their skills.

For the sporty among us, there is a volleyball court, table tennis tables, and a fitness trail.

In winter, the frozen lake offers winter fun for the whole family.
