Description
The Gailtaler Heimatmuseum is located in the historic Möderndorf Castle, a four-story building with a distinctive L-shaped floor plan and several architectural styles, which took its current form in the 16th century.
Since 1458, the castle has been owned by various noble families and personalities, including Siegmund Weidegger, the Habsburgs, and Prince Johann Ferdinand Porcia. In 1982, Georg Essl II converted it into a local history museum.
The museum preserves significant testimonies of the regional history and culture and was handed over to the municipal administration in 2000.
