Grasbrookpark
Description
Grasbrookpark is a small neighborhood park located at the Grasbrookhafen in HafenCity, within Hamburg-Mitte. It lies in the Am Sandtorpark/Grasbrook quarter, situated between Überseequartier and the Marco-Polo-Terraces. Surrounding streets are Am Grasbrookpark to the north, Großer Grasbrook street to the west, Hübenerstraße to the south, and San-Francisco-Straße to the east. Originally, due to the construction of the new subway line 4 running directly beneath today’s park and the Überseequartier subway station, the park was developed as a much smaller playground and opened in June 2008. This playground was a temporary solution until the subway construction was completed and adjacent construction work allowed for a much larger neighborhood park. The current Grasbrookpark covers around 7,100 square meters, with a large play area for children at its center. Many of the playground structures from the former playground were retained and integrated into the new park. It opened in its current form in August 2013. Access to the subway station is available at the park’s eastern entrance on San-Francisco-Straße.
