Description
The Gärten der Welt park is located at the northern foot of Kienberg in the Marzahn district of Berlin's Marzahn-Hellersdorf borough. The park was opened on May 9, 1987, on the occasion of Berlin's 750th anniversary, based on plans by Gottfried Funeck, then city garden director in East Berlin. It covered about 21 hectares and was designed as a counterpart to the Britzer Garten in West Berlin, which had opened in 1985 for the Bundesgartenschau.
