Description
Gustav-Mahler-Park is a nearly one-hectare public green space in the Hamburg district of Neustadt. It forms part of a green belt stretching along the former city wall from the Alster at Lombardsbrücke, through Planten un Blomen, all the way to the Elbe. In 1991, the section—previously known mostly as Dammtorpark due to its location—was renamed after the composer Gustav Mahler, who served as First Kapellmeister at the Hamburg City Theater from 1891 to 1897. The footpath through the park was named after tenor Hans Grahl in 2010; he was also active at the State Opera before World War II.
