Handwerkermuseum Sittensen

Description
Handwerkermuseum Sittensen is located in a historic watermill with a museum smithy and preserves rural craft history and traditions.
The permanent exhibition features original workshops and many exhibits that bring almost forgotten craft techniques to life. You can get hands-on by writing with quill and ink or planing wood in the carpenter area.
- A technology exhibition showcasing watermill machinery over 400 years old
- The museum smithy presents the trades of wagon maker and blacksmith with live demonstrations by volunteer smiths
- Regular special exhibitions with regional artists and local themes focusing on history and craftsmanship
- Cultural events like action days “Crafts of the Past,” open guided tours, and interactive activities such as weaving and smithing
- Weaving and spinning courses for adults to learn and practice traditional crafts
Special tours and projects are designed for children aged 8 to 10, such as the program “From Flax to Linen – Spinning and Weaving” for third and fourth graders, including material exploration and hands-on weaving.
Interactive programs are regularly offered during vacations (Easter, summer, fall), making different museum themes exciting for children each year.
