Description

The Haus der Stadtgeschichte is located in a historic city gate of the former imperial city of Donauwörth. There, the city’s long and eventful history is vividly brought to life with numerous exhibits:

  • The market certificate from 1030, Staufer bracteates, and thalers from the 16th century showcase the city’s economic roots.

  • A judicial sword, a neck violin, and various weapons make the history tangible.

  • Models of rafts document Donauwörth as a “city on the river” with an early shipping history.

  • On the third floor, the Lovriner Heimatstube offers another historically valuable perspective.

Particularly impressive are the exhibits and stories concerning Mangoldstein Castle, the Holy Cross Abbey, as well as the Reich’s road before and after its destruction in April 1945. Additionally, the museum shows the impact of post-World War II reconstruction on city life.
