Description
Heimatmuseum takes you on an exciting journey through over 1,000 years of history in Ebermannstadt. Here you can explore traditions of brewing, everyday life, regional costumes, and crafts – all up close and hands-on.
The exhibition features fascinating archaeological finds from the prehistory and early history of the Franconian Switzerland region, including a fossilized marine crocodile that stands out as a highlight of the fossil collection.
Key figures from the region are also featured, such as the Jewish scribe Moses, teacher and musician F. M. Freytag, sculptor F. Theiler, and J. G. Lahner, the inventor of the Viennese sausage.
The geology section clearly explains the formation and structure of the Earth's crust around Ebermannstadt and showcases impressive fossils like ammonites, belemnites, a marine crocodile skeleton, and a cave bear skull.
Everyday life and work in the town come alive: agriculture, brewing, and crafts shape the exhibition alongside historical events such as the Hussite destruction and peasant wars. The folk culture collection displays traditional costumes and original household items for cooking and washing, giving insight into the lives of earlier generations and stories of immigration.
During the holiday program, children experience historic crafts up close: for example, they can practice "washing like in grandmother’s time" or make their own soap. There are also family festivals, guided tours, and workshops on local topics – perfect for young explorers.
