Active around the lake
An accessible lakeside path leads all the way around the lake, offering beautiful views of nature. Numerous hiking trails in the area invite you to explore the landscape further. A kiosk by the lake provides a little refreshment. Fishing enthusiasts also appreciate the variety of fish species here.
The legend of Wackerhannes
Herthasee is not only a popular excursion spot but also a place with history. Where the lake is now, there once was a raised bog. According to a local legend, during the Thirty Years' War, a young man named Hannes from Horhausen led Swedish soldiers into this bog, where they sank. His brave deed made him a legend.
The name "Wackerhannes" still recalls this story today and connects Herthasee with the region’s past.
