Description

Karl-May-Haus Literaturmuseum und Forschungsstätte offers exciting insights into the life and work of Karl May for children and teenagers from 6 years old.

During public tours, you can experience Karl May up close – even in a special costume tour with characters like Old Shatterhand or Mother May. The special exhibition "In der Heimath. Karl Mays Erzgebirge" vividly presents life and social conditions in the 19th century.

For collectors and fans, there is a vibrant cabinet exhibition featuring Karl May collectible cards with Winnetou, Old Shatterhand & Co., which especially delights children.

School programs are designed age-appropriately: from a 45-minute taster course for preschoolers to guided tours for schoolchildren and interactive discussions with older teenagers about Karl May’s self-presentation in the media.

  • Creative workshops to craft tipis, lamps, pen holders, or incense houses, as well as Native American bead weaving 🪶

  • Historical writing with Kurrent script and quills – a hands-on experience

  • Museum in a clip: film video clips and capture your own impressions 🎥 (free of charge)

  • Exciting outdoor group activities like archery and horseshoe throwing

  • Guided city walks tracing Karl May’s footsteps and hikes to the Karl-May Cave
