Description

The KOHLEWELT - Museum Steinkohlenbergbau Sachsen takes you into a fascinating world all about coal. Experience firsthand the 800-year history of Saxon hard coal mining and the grueling work of the miners through authentic recreations of tunnels and mining facilities.

On the grounds of the former Kaiserin-Augusta Shaft, you'll find the impressive contemporary light art installation "Beyond Horizons 2025" by the renowned American artist James Turrell.

For young visitors, there are exciting programs: a puppet theater tells a story about the longing for light and gives a glimpse of Turrell’s light art, a guided "mining spirit" tour introduces you to the mysterious mining spirit, and a children’s tour through the tunnel replica clearly explains the dangerous and tough work miners had to do.

Especially entertaining is the special tour with August Albin Wendler, the "coal measurer," who humorously guides you into the world of coal measuring.

The visit is an experience for the whole family with a mix of history, art, and exciting theater. 🎭✨
