Description
Karlinger Hammerschmiede dates back to around 1600 and received imperial guild privileges. You can see original workshop parts there such as the forge from 1698 and the hammer support from 1796. Especially impressive is the historic „Schwanz“-hammer, one of the oldest preserved hammers in Austria, as well as a huge water wheel (more than 3 m in diameter) that once drove a 160 kg hammer. The water systems were renewed in recent decades (new wheel 1978–1996, renewal of the supply and wheel 2003) and the exhibition explains the regional role Unterweißenbach had as the seat of the horseshoe and hammerworks guild. 🔨
