Description

Kastell Hainhaus takes you into the exciting world of the Romans – a well-preserved fort from the older Odenwald section of the Neckar-Odenwald Limes, set in a picturesque forest landscape 🌳.

The fort clearly demonstrates the development of Roman construction methods across three building phases: from wood-and-earth fortifications to dry-stone walls and finally to modern stone walls with mortar. On nearly 0.6 hectares with rounded corners, you can explore the impressive defensive structures and the wide ditch (the Fossa Punica).

Just a stone's throw away lie the remains of Roman military baths with various heated rooms – giving you a glimpse into the daily life of Roman soldiers. Additionally, an 18th-century hunting lodge enriches the cultural landscape of the site.

Also interesting for the whole family is the nearby museum in Michelstadt, which brings the Roman history of the region to life with fascinating exhibits.
