Description

The Kielmeyerhaus in Esslingen am Neckar is a historic building from 1582, originally constructed as a large wine press house with about eight wine presses.

The building impresses with a captivating Renaissance timber frame, decorated with carved fascia boards and numerous decorative motifs such as fire goats and profiled lozenges.

Fascinating legends surround the house, including the story of a crocodile in the cellar that once escaped from a local animal show and chased coopers. There is also a tale of a small stone figure, known as the black little man, who punished thieving cellar helpers with beatings.

The striking facade features the imperial coat of arms with the Order of the Golden Fleece and a relief of Saint Catherine, highlighting the house's historical significance.

The Kielmeyerhaus is a well-known cultural monument and, as a distinctive part of the northern market square facade in Esslingen, shapes the surroundings. It served as an inspiration to artists such as Renate Mildner-Müller.
