Description

The Kultur- und Stadthistorisches Museum takes you on an exciting journey through the history of the city of Duisburg – from the Stone Age to the economic miracle.

You can explore three permanent exhibitions as well as changing special exhibitions that offer plenty to discover. A particular highlight is the exhibition 'Cash! A History of Money', which fascinatingly presents the different forms and functions of money worldwide and throughout history.

In the Mercator Treasury, Europe’s famous globes and atlases by cartographer Gerhard Mercator from the 16th century await your curiosity.

Natural and local history are explored creatively, especially in the exhibition 'Stories from the Duisburg Forest', which looks at the forest from many angles and shows its significance over centuries.

Children up to around age 6 can enjoy exciting workshops, such as clay crafting – favorite pieces or sharing stories and crafting together with fairy tales from around the world and Duisburg legends.

In autumn, creative nature workshops like 'From giant trees to tiny mushrooms – creatively exploring the autumn forest' invite you to discover the woods.

For those who want to learn more, there are special guided tours with curators offering insights into local natural history and also addressing challenging topics like the exhibition 'ÜBERSEeHEN – On (post)colonial traces in Duisburg', which makes colonial legacies visible and helps break down prejudices.
