Description

The Kurpark borders directly on the "SaLü," the Salztherme Lüneburg, where the brine still bubbles today. You can even breathe it in: in the Kurpark stands a graduation tower, from whose branches brine drips and sprays a fine salty mist – a balm for the lungs.

The Kurpark in LüneburgThe Lüneburg Kurpark covers 23 hectares and is a park designed in the style of an English landscape garden. It is located in the southern part of the city center and is Lüneburg’s green lung.

At the beginning of garden art, the goal was to create "walkable landscape paintings" as parks. This was also the case in Lüneburg. Wide areas with large trees, over which paths meandered, were meant to offer an uninterrupted view. That is why fences and hedges were avoided. You will find few flowering plants; the park concept prevails, modeled after the English landscape gardens.

Here, in warm weather, young and old, families and students can relax and unwind.

Graduation TowerLüneburg is known for its salt mining – but that is not all. Salt and brine are used in many ways.

As early as 1907, a brine and moor bathhouse was built on the site of today’s Kurpark. Shortly afterward, a new graduation tower was put into operation. The number of health resort visitors in Lüneburg increased as a result, reaching several hundred visitors per year. When the graduation tower was first expanded around 1927, the number of visitors continued to grow. By 1925, there were already 7,822 health resort guests annually.

Graduation towers are an extremely rare feature found only in a few German cities.

Here in Lüneburg, the graduation tower measures an impressive 59 meters long, 7 meters wide, and also 7 meters high.

Currently, the graduation tower is being restored and is not in operation.

Just a few minutes away, while taking a walk or sitting relaxed on a bench, it works wonders for body and mind.
