Description
On the right bank of the Rhine, Merheimer Heide is a local recreational area in Cologne originally designed by Fritz Schumacher. His plans included creating an Outer Green Belt surrounding the city. The green spaces of Merheimer Heide border or extend across the neighborhoods of Buchheim, Holweide, Merheim, and Höhenberg. Residential and highway construction have significantly reduced the original 150-hectare area in the eastern part.
