Description

What could be better than diving into cool water or letting it gently flow over your body on a hot, sunny day?

If you also prefer swimming without chemical additives, you don’t have to travel far to the sea or a bathing lake, because Naturbad Heilborn in Merzig offers you everything that makes a natural body of water, except for the waves.

Wooden walkways over the water, idyllic water lilies and reed beds, a stream with a play area for toddlers, a diving platform, a water slide, a beach volleyball court, and plenty of sunbathing space with beautiful old trees are all available for outdoor enthusiasts at Naturbad Heilborn.

It’s no surprise that there’s a real holiday atmosphere at Naturbad Heilborn. About half of the water area is available to guests as a swimming area. The pool includes both a swimming and a non-swimming section. A special highlight for big and little water fans is the 53 m long slide or the diving tower. The other part of the water area is used for regeneration and maintaining water quality, as the water is cleaned biologically rather than chemically, unlike the former outdoor pool.

“Natural pools are a kind of ecosystem, as plants and microorganisms provide Naturbad with a natural self-cleaning power,” explains Alexander Albrand, managing director of Merziger Bäder GmbH. “Chemical additives such as chlorine are completely avoided, and cleaning is instead promoted through aquatic ecological processes.”

More and more summer guests are taking advantage of this benefit compared to chlorinated outdoor pools. To reduce the load on the water caused by bathers and environmental influences, the water is passed through various treatment areas. A plant filter with a special filter substrate ensures clear, clean water. Using a pump, the water is sent to the so-called Neptune filter, where it is sprayed through nozzles, trickles through a filter bed, and then returns to the swimming pool. The constant circulation resulting from this process supports hygienically impeccable water quality.

Each natural pool has its own special features, and not all reactions to bathing use are fully predictable. The water parameters of the natural pool are constantly monitored by the pool staff and are under the supervision of the health department.

Guests can support the biological cleaning effect and actively contribute to water hygiene with simple, obvious measures. The introduction of germs and nutrients can be significantly reduced if every bather showers thoroughly before entering the pool. The pool surroundings and wooden walkways should only be entered barefoot, and any dirt or grass clippings on the feet should be rinsed off briefly. Using water-resistant sunscreen also protects the sensitive biological balance.

“If, contrary to all weather forecasts, it should rain, all outdoor pool fans can move to DAS BAD,” explains Alexander Albrand. “The numerous water attractions and wellness offerings in our leisure and health spa with both indoor and outdoor pools are available to our guests every day of the week and in all weather conditions.”
