A special place is the “Herbal Human,” an herb bed shaped like a person. The surrounding nature is shaped by agricultural use. Small streams flow through the area, draining it. Hedges act as natural boundaries and serve as windbreaks. Gravel mining has also shaped the landscape. A remnant of this is the Appener See, a former gravel pit. From the observation station on the shore, you can watch waterfowl and other animals. On the way there, you'll likely spot the robust cattle grazing by the lake’s edge.
