Österreichisches Freilichtmuseum Stübing
Description
Österreichisches Freilichtmuseum Stübing is the largest and only national open-air museum in Austria, showcasing historic architectural styles from various federal states.
With 103 historic buildings such as houses, barns, mills, and alpine huts, the museum presents residential landscapes from the last six centuries from Austria and South Tyrol – including the oldest building dating back to 1452, a grain shaker known as a "treasure chest" of the farmers.
Set within a protected nature reserve and Natura 2000 area, a diverse range of plants and animals thrives. The museum serves as a center of expertise for traditional crafts and offers workshops, courses, and interactive events to share both theoretical and practical knowledge.
The permanent exhibition "The Remembered Time" showcases traditional construction, living, and working methods, as well as life cycles and customs throughout the year. Other exhibitions focus on old agricultural technology, from field to bread, and the history of medicinal plants from ancient times to today.
Particularly noteworthy is the certification as a Green Museum with the Austrian Eco-label, highlighting sustainable and ecological awareness in daily museum operations and exhibitions. An exciting destination for anyone wanting to experience history, crafts, and nature! 🌿
