Description
The Paläontologische Sammlung displays impressive fossils from southwest Germany and beyond – ideal for you, families and children who want to discover ancient creatures. 🦕
The exhibition was renovated in 2010–2011 and offers an overview of the evolution of life, the early development of mammals and therapsids, and an extensive research collection with around 600.000 objects – ideal for learning about vast stretches of time. Particularly exciting for children are the extensive trace fossil collection by Adolf Seilacher and the large vertebrate finds.
- Almost complete Plateosaurus engelhardti skeleton from Trossingen, reconstructed by Friedrich von Huene.
- Two impressive cave-bear skeletons from Karls- und Bärenhöhle.
- Large marine reptiles such as Lipleurodon ferox (pliosaurs), ichthyosaurs, plesiosaurs, and marine crocodiles.
- One of only eight known specimens of the placodont Henodus chelyops.
- Striking 3,5 m 'Arietenpflaster' with Lower Jurassic ammonites from Bodelshausen.
