Schloss Lichtenstein
Description
Schloss Lichtenstein is also known as the "Fairy Tale Castle of Württemberg" and delights families with its authentic medieval knight’s castle atmosphere that seems to come straight out of a fairy tale.
The castle is designed in a romantic style and was inspired by Wilhelm Hauff’s novel "Lichtenstein." This makes visiting feel like diving into an exciting story – perfect for children and adults who love knights and castles.
Inside, families can admire extensive neo-Gothic decorations, including impressive paintings by Georg Eberlein as well as medieval features like bastions and cannon towers that are fascinating both visually and historically.
The large castle courtyard with its moat and bastions showcases the development of fortress architecture from the Renaissance to the 19th century – a great spot for kids eager to explore knights’ castles and defensive structures.
Schloss Lichtenstein was also a filming location for the fairy tale movie "Sleeping Beauty" (2009), where it appears as an enchanted castle with a thorn hedge – perfect for families who love fairy tales.
The interior of the castle can only be visited on guided tours, but the courtyard is open to all visitors and offers exciting sights like historic cannons and fairy-tale architecture.
