Description
Located in the Holthausen district in southern Düsseldorf, Park Elbroich is one of the smaller parks in Düsseldorf, covering 14.6 hectares. However, due to its large number of mature trees, it remains one of the most interesting parks in the city. The trees create impressive focal points throughout the park, making it feel larger than it actually is. They were planted starting in the 12th century by the owners of the moated castle, which, after its drainage in 1760, formed the structural basis of today's Schloss Elbroich. As early as 1189, there was a knight’s seat on this site, which Barbarossa’s adjutant Arnold von Tyvern sold to Count Engelbert I of Berg. The last private owner was Ferdinand Heye, the founder of the Gerresheimer Glassworks, which is why the park was formerly known as Heye Park. In the center of the park are a geriatric clinic and Schloss Elbroich, which today serves as a hub for various management and insurance companies.
