Description
Planten un Blomen is a public park covering about 47 hectares in the center of Hamburg. The park is part of a greenbelt that once surrounded the entire city center, created in the early 19th century after the demolition of Hamburg's city fortifications. The founding date is considered to be November 6, 1821, when the first director of the Botanical Garden, Johann Georg Christian Lehmann, planted a plane tree as the first tree of the new garden. The tree is located at the Dammtor entrance, between the tropical house and the Congress Center.
