Schiefes Haus
Description
The Schiefes Haus in Ulm is a fascinating late Gothic half-timbered house, leaning between 9° and 10°, making it one of the most extraordinary buildings.
From the first floor, it partially extends over the Blau River, allowing boats to dock safely underneath the building. In the historic cellar, there used to be natural freshwater basins where fishermen kept their catch alive until market day.
Since 1995, the Schiefes Haus has operated as a hotel and maintains its unusual tilt through special steel reinforcements. In the 11 modern rooms set within the historic building, the room squares tilt up to 40 cm – but the horizontally installed beds use spirit levels to show you that you really lie flat when resting.
The Schiefes Haus has held a place in the Guinness Book of Records since 1997 as the world’s most tilted hotel. An exciting experience for anyone who loves extraordinary architecture and history!
