Schloss Colditz

Description
The new permanent exhibition at Schloss Colditz tells the eventful history of the castle across various eras. The focus is on the spectacular escape attempts by Allied officers from the prisoner-of-war camp during World War II.
Using a tablet, visitors can experience an interactive, emotional journey through the castle’s history – from prisoner camp to psychiatric hospital to general hospital. The once magnificent hunting lodge became a symbol of the will for freedom.
The castle retains its unique lost-place character, as many rooms remain unrestored, enhancing the mysterious atmosphere.
Family-friendly guided tours in German are offered, such as the “Family-Friendly Castle Tour”. For English speakers, there is the “Legendary Escapes” tour, which includes a museum day ticket and HistoPad (interactive tablet).
Those who wish can stay overnight right in the castle – the Youth Hostel Schloss Colditz turns the visit into a true knightly experience.
