Sorpesee

Description
The Sorpetalsperre in the eastern Hochsauerland and part of the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge Nature Park is one of the largest bodies of water in the Ruhrverband. With a depth of over 70 meters and excellent water quality, it holds a prominent position. Located between Langscheid and Amecke, the Sorpesee serves as a hub for a variety of activities.
Constructed between 1926 and 1935, the Sorpetalsperre was considered one of the largest construction sites in Europe. The dam, an earth dam with a 69-meter-high concrete core wall, has been used since November 1934 with a reservoir capacity of 70 million cubic meters for water regulation, power generation, and drinking water supply, as well as a recreational area.
The Sorpesee acts as an important local recreational spot. A wide range of activities such as swimming, rowing, sailing, surfing, beach volleyball, fishing, mini golf, and hiking are available. The newly designed Langscheid promenade (2009) and the “Airlebnisweg” in Amecke (2015) complement the infrastructure. The "MS Sorpesee" offers excursion trips during the season. Several DLRG stations and a DRK station at Campsite 3 ensure safety.
