Stiepelse

Description
For over 800 years, Stiepelse has been home to people. The village's elevated location protected it from the river's destructive floods. The residents used the river not only for fishing but also for trading cattle to Hamburg and brown coal from Leipzig. During the GDR period, however, the river lost its economic importance as it became a border.
After reunification, the village gained tourist appeal thanks to its picturesque location by the river. Numerous activities organized by the village association, guest accommodations, and a diverse range of dining options attract visitors. Its position along the Elbe cycle route has brought a strong increase in bicycle tourism. A visit to Stiepelse is definitely worthwhile: this lively village is one of the best-preserved on the right side of the Elbe.
