Vršovický skanzen
Description
At the Vršovický skanzen in Prague 10, you'll find historic houses steeped in history. House No. 11 is especially worth seeing: its steeply pitched roof is covered with split wooden shingles and is considered the only surviving roof of this type in Prague 10.
An outdoor staircase leads to the raised ground floor and on to a wooden gallery under a broad, overhanging roof. At the end of the 1930s, House No. 11 served as a turner's workshop, and in the 1970s demolition was even under discussion – the house, however, was preserved.
If you're interested in history, you'll find more traces of bygone times here:
- House No. 144 dates from 1854 and has Classicist roots
- Its facade was remodeled in the Neo-Gothic style at the end of the 19th century
- House No. 59 once stood on the bank of the Botič Stream, before the original watercourse was regulated
- House No. 11 and two neighboring houses have been protected as cultural monuments since the second half of the 1990s
