Climbing trunks, stepping stones, a stilt path, a Kneipp basin, lots of sand, and of course wonderful mud for building dams and digging. That sounds like vacation, sunshine, and the beach.

Along the 900-meter long, well-maintained trail following the old bed of the Riesenbach, there is much more to discover. Here, a Riesenbach memory game invites you to explore the stream’s watery world up close. A tree frog also wants to play with the little visitors. It explains the wildlife in the Riesenbach and lets the children investigate which animals live in the stream and which do not.

From the viewing balcony at the access to the Ehmetsklinge, you can best admire the various biotopes of the stream valley. Fixed viewing tubes direct the viewer’s gaze to specific points in the landscape.

Immerse yourself with all your senses – the watery world as an educational trail

The visitors of Wasserwelten Zaberfeld also learn, almost incidentally, how and why the Riesenbach was straightened and what benefits come from letting a stream meander freely through the meadows. For the landscape, animals, and plant life, the renaturalization is a real gain since the flow velocity has been significantly reduced and the watercourse no longer digs so deep into the subsoil. Children are probably less interested in the theory; it’s more exciting for them to try this out in an experiment. Two different channels can be filled with water, and it can be clearly seen where the water flows faster and carries more with it.
