Archaeology Tour Nordeifel 2026: Ancient Life in the Quarry

Description
Looking from Zülpich towards Bürvenich, you can see distinctive ridges at the northern edge of the Eifel. They consist of rock layers from the Upper Muschelkalk of the Middle Triassic period, 240 million years ago. Within them are inconspicuous fossils, from which experts can draw conclusions about the environment back then. You can also observe how the barren rock surfaces of the quarry gradually weather and become covered by nature.
