Burgweihnacht at Burg Satzvey

The Burgweihnacht at Burg Satzvey has been one of the premier historic Christmas markets in the Eifel region for many years. The festive atmosphere, filled with sparkling lights, Christmas scents, and the castle’s historic setting, offers a unique experience. Market stalls feature artisans selling handmade goods and regional specialties, including wooden toys, Christmas decorations, nativity scenes, soaps, and incense. A special highlight is the medieval nativity play, performed several times daily in the castle park for almost three decades. The scenes are presented in Latin and Middle High German, with a proclaimer translating them into German. For children, there is Santa’s workshop where they can create their wish lists and hand them directly to Santa. The Burgweihnacht supports the preservation of the castle and is maintained by the family of the Counts Beissel von Gymnich following the motto “Preservation through Entertainment.” Other events throughout the year also invite visitors to come by.
