Christmas magic in Monschau – romantic market opens on November 27

When the half-timbered houses glow with warm light and the scent of gingerbread, mulled wine, and spices drifts through the alleys, it's Christmas market time again in Monschau. The atmospheric and romantic market in Germany's most beautiful small town opens its doors again this year on all four Advent weekends (November 27 to December 20) – Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sundays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

About 35 festively decorated booths invite you to stroll and linger at various locations throughout the city. Visitors can enjoy a variety of handmade gift ideas, decorations, jewelry, treats, and regional specialties, such as Monschau mustard, gingerbread, Dütchen, or Vennbrocken not only at the market but also in the boutiques and shops of the historic town. The offer is complemented by additional market stalls in the market hall, where the "Hauskrippenbauer Monschauer Land" association will also present its artistically crafted nativity scenes, at the Rur bridge, and in the "Haus am Turm" on Stadtstraße.

Another highlight is the hobby and arts and crafts markets in the cloister of the Auel monastery on the weekends of December 4-6 and December 11-13, where around 10 additional stands by various artisans showcase their handcrafted products.

There is also plenty for the little visitors: every Saturday, Saint Nicholas walks through the Christmas market handing out gifts. The elf workshop at the Kolpinghaus am Stehlings invites children to craft with natural materials from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays – supervised by Andrea Pauls (Children's Nature Workshop Löwenzahn). The historic carousel on Vincent-Weber-Platz brings bright smiles to children’s faces. At the Erlebnis Museum Lernort Natur near the glassworks at Burgau, children can participate in a "Dwarf Rally."

The market is accompanied by Christmas live music in the evenings: on Saturdays and Sundays, music clubs or tower trumpeters perform in the market to create a festive atmosphere.

To ensure a relaxed arrival, a park & ride system is available: on all event days, shuttle buses run regularly from Imgenbroich Bus Station (Fri. and Sat. from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Sun. from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.), from Höfen National Park Gate (Fri. 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., Sat. 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sun. 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.), and from Schulzentrum Haag (Fri. 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sat. 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sun. 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.).
