Wetzlar Christmas Flair 2026

Description
Enjoy the magic of the pre-Christmas season in Wetzlar as you stroll through the cozy, beautifully decorated streets and squares of the old town for your holiday shopping!
At the Cathedral Square, the Christmas village welcomes you with the Dom-Stadl and numerous huts, an illuminated cathedral along with the Heidenhof featuring nativity figures crafted by a wood artist. Wander over to Schillerplatz, where the historic Advent village stands beneath the chestnut tree, lit up with thousands of lights and Moravian stars that showcase and illuminate the tree. Along the way, you will find craft artists in the Hofstatt, presenting and offering all kinds of handmade work.
Ice rink behind the cathedral – as in recent years, the rink, which is very popular with both children and adults, is set up on the open area at the cathedral steps behind the cathedral. Framed by old trees that seem to watch over the rink. Access to the ice rink is either through the Heidenhof via the Heidenportal, once again illuminated to create a great backdrop for photos, or via the small stairway at the cathedral steps.
The opening hours at both Cathedral Square and Schillerplatz are from November 26 to December 27, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
As is tradition, you can also reserve tables this time at the “Christmas Flair” on Cathedral and Schillerplatz! The booking tool will go online again after the Gallus market, allowing you to reserve one or more tables for a maximum of 3 hours. For each table reservation, a non-refundable fee of €10 per table applies.
The Old Town Association Wetzlar e.V. offers families, customers, and visitors to the old town an extraordinary program during the pre-Christmas shopping season. On Wednesdays at 4:30 p.m., there is the popular open-air children's cinema for kids and adults (December 2, 9, 16, and 23), and the Christmas stories from the “Old Town Santa Heinrich Bethge” are told on Thursdays at 5:00 p.m. (December 3, 10, and 17) – everything takes place on the Eisenmarkt steps with cushions and blankets for seating.
Another children's program takes place on all 4 Advent Sundays on the Cathedral Square stage; look forward to Oliver Mager with his Kruschel, Martin Pfeiffer’s Christmas song show, Lydia and her Christmas elves, and more, all starting Sundays at 1:00 p.m. on the stage.
