Burg Langendorf
Description
Burg Langendorf is one of the best-preserved water castles in the Rhineland and dates back to the 12th to 13th century. The impressive structure today features a four-winged complex enclosing a rectangular courtyard – originally, the castle was a two-part complex with a three-winged outer ward and a manor house, separated by a moat.
The manor house has a two-story building with a tower from the 15th century, as well as one of the best-preserved late medieval roof structures in the wider region. The special highlight inside the castle is the unusually elaborate vaulted ceilings from around 1500, which once served as a court location.
The castle’s history is tied to important noble families such as von Langendorf, von Gertzen, von Palant, and von Harff, who influenced significant regional power shifts and architectural developments.
Access to the castle is exclusively by guided group tours arranged in advance, making it a unique experience for families interested in history. 🏰
