Description

## Brief Description

The Hohenzollern kings held their royal hunts at Letzlingen. How Friedrich Wilhelm IV once lived here is shown in a permanent exhibition in Schloss Letzlingen.

## Description

King Friedrich Wilhelm IV awakened the hunting lodge from its fairy-tale slumber and had it remodeled in 1843/44 by the gifted architect Friedrich August Stüler in the neo-Gothic style. For the state hunts of the later emperors Wilhelm I and Wilhelm II, crowned heads from all over Europe gathered here. A permanent exhibition by the Saxony-Anhalt Cultural Foundation in the castle tells the story of what happened during the court hunts in the Letzlinger Heide.

Also on display is the bel étage once inhabited by Friedrich Wilhelm IV. It is furnished with original furniture from his time. Among the treasures is an intricately decorated desk of the king, made of oak and walnut wood, also designed by Stüler. Valuable portraits show the builder of the predecessor castle, Johann Georg von Brandenburg, and his first wife, Sophia von Liegnitz.

Just like for the remodeling of the castle, Stüler was also responsible for the construction of the new castle church, completed in 1861.
