Deutsches Sielhafenmuseum

Description
The Deutsches Sielhafenmuseum takes you on an exciting journey back to the 19th century in the German North Sea sielharbors. Dive into everyday life at sea, learn about the challenges sailors faced, and discover how they explored the world.
Experience the vibrant culture of the captain families with their social pride and maritime lifestyle. On the grounds, you will find four historic buildings as well as a museum harbor with traditional sailing ships and the museum cutter GEBRÜDER – a real adventure for anyone interested in the age of sail trade.
Many interactive and multimedia features make the visit especially exciting. The museum buildings are largely accessible for people with disabilities.
Three historic houses around the harbor invite you to explore: the Groot Hus, the Kapitänshaus, and the Alte Pastorei. Each presents different fascinating aspects of harbor life and regional culture.
Especially recommended for visitors 12 years and older is the guided harbor tour “Harlesiel – Fish, Freight, and Ferries.” It tells the story of the harbor’s development from a ferry and fishing port in the 1950s to today’s coastal protection measures. The approximately 90-minute tour goes from the west shore of the inner harbor to the nearby pumping station and the campground.
