Description

Eilbeker Bürgerpark is a public green space of about 1.5 hectares located in the Eilbek district of Hamburg. It originally belonged to the merchant Dethard Kalkmann, who built an impressive villa here in the 19th century. When the land was parceled out and planned for sale around the turn of the century, the city purchased the property in 1902 and transformed it into a public recreational park to serve the rapidly growing Eilbek population at the time. The villa remained a popular excursion restaurant until it was demolished in 1911.
