Description

Feuerwehrmuseum Mechenried showcases a fascinating collection of around 150 helmets from across Europe, along with about 2,200 firefighting artifacts – including equipment, badges, medals, and uniforms.

Many of these items were lovingly restored by the original collector, Gerhard Kalnbach, who began gathering them in 1963. The exhibition covers firefighting history from the 19th century through post-World War II, featuring special highlights like helmets from the years 1900–1933 and 1934–1948.

The museum has been located since 1987 in Mechenried’s historic schoolhouse. Here you can explore regional history and learn a lot about the development of firefighting – ideal for school groups and families eager to discover something new together.

An enthusiastic association has worked since 2005 to ensure this valuable collection is permanently preserved and open to the public – supported by local fire departments and authorities.

A visit to Feuerwehrmuseum Mechenried is a fantastic opportunity to experience history up close and explore the exciting world of firefighting technology! 🚒
