Freizeitareal Bergstraße – Begegnung am Wasser

The Freizeitareal Bergstraße – Begegnung am Wasser in Grüna was comprehensively redesigned as an intervention space for the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 and as a public square. Since its opening on April 14, 2025, the area has offered a variety of opportunities for meeting, moving, and relaxing. At the center is a multifunctional square with a stage, seating areas for all ages, and a pond terrace accessible via a footbridge. The facilities are complemented by a pump track, a play structure, and a walking and cycling path connecting all sections. New plantings of trees, shrubs, and perennials enhance the green areas, taking nature conservation into account. The circular hiking trail “Experience Grüna” and the future premium bike path on the old Wüstenbrand–Küchwald railway line also integrate the leisure area.
