Gottfried-August-Bürger-Museum Molmerswende

Description
Brief summary The former parsonage in Molmerswende, a district of Mansfeld, houses the museum dedicated to the poet Gottfried August Bürger, who was born in this very house.
Description Most people know the tales of the “Baron Munchausen” known for his tall stories, but the author behind them is less well-known: Gottfried August Bürger was born in 1747 in Molmerswende, now a district of Mansfeld.
Today, his birthplace, the old parsonage, hosts an impressive museum. The rooms offer visitors a large collection of writings. Especially noteworthy are the over 300 different editions of the Baron Munchausen stories, including many historical and international copies.
Additionally, various other writings and documents testify to the life and work of Gottfried August Bürger. The German poet wrote numerous socially critical texts, translated them into other languages, and also worked as an editor. He also founded the genre of the art ballad, wrote love poetry, and politically charged poems. However, he became best known for creating the character of the “Baron Munchausen.”
Mansfeld offers several sights for visitors. Many relate to the famous reformer Martin Luther. But when visiting the city, be sure not to overlook its “other child,” Gottfried August Bürger. Visit the museum in Molmerswende and dive into the life of this German poet!
