Grenzmuseum Böckwitz-Zicherie: Lebendige Erinnerungen

Description
## Short Description
It wasn’t just Berlin that was divided by the Wall. The “Iron Curtain” once ran right through the twin village of Böckwitz-Zicherie. This small border museum recalls that time.
## Description
When the Wall was built in Berlin in 1961, the people between Böckwitz and Zicherie had already been separated by the border for nine years. The GDR relocated large numbers of people from the border zone in an “Operation Vermin,” while others fled. The Schütte family was among them, abandoning their farm on the border. But the memory remained, and after the Iron Curtain fell, Willi Schütte returned and founded the border museum on his parents’ farm.
The founder has since passed away, but his work lives on. The small museum houses many exhibits that tell about the daily life and fates of people at the inner-German border. The rebuilt bakehouse hosts readings and lectures. The museum association also organizes hikes and bike tours along the former border. A border nature trail offers a way to get a personal impression of how the border was secured.
