Description

The Grünsandsteinmuseum Soest is located in a historic half-timbered building that served as a barn and feed storage until around 1970 – directly connecting to the town and settlement history.

The museum features exciting exhibitions about green sandstone: geological insights, remnants of long-lost Soest churches and monasteries, and artifacts from the local quarries provide fascinating glimpses into the history of this material.

A film made by WDR about the museum lets visitors dive even deeper into the subject and enriches the tour.

In the attic, you can also learn interesting facts about historical building techniques and monument preservation – perfect for anyone interested in traditional craftsmanship.

The museum is supplemented by collections and contributions from green sandstone enthusiasts, creating a lively picture of the regional stone tradition.
