Großer Garten
Description
Großer Garten in Dresden is a park with Baroque origins. The city’s largest park today was created starting in 1676 on the orders of Elector Johann Georg III. and was expanded multiple times over its history, resulting in an almost rectangular layout covering about 1.8 square kilometers. Its length is about 1900 meters, and its maximum width is 950 meters. The park’s centerpiece is the Summer Palace, built around 1680 under the direction of Wolf Caspar von Klengel and Johann Georg Starcke. Over its more than three hundred years of history, Großer Garten has undergone many changes, retaining its Baroque structure, though it can no longer be considered a traditional Baroque garden in the strict sense.
