Handwerksmuseum Horneburg

Description
The Handwerksmuseum Horneburg offers you a vivid impression of horse-drawn transport and the related crafts from the 17th to the 19th centuries. You can discover historic tools and materials from a still-functioning blacksmith's shop, saddlery, wheelwright's workshop, and cooperage.
Particularly worth seeing are a rural tavern (“Ausspann”) from around 1830 as well as various horse-drawn vehicles and rural wheelwright products. The museum also includes a two-story storage room with preserved old tools and work equipment from past centuries.
The exhibition is complemented by fascinating information about the history of Horneburg Castle, its castellan, numerous former inns, and postal services. A highlight is the restored historic Lühejolle boat, surrounded by old boat-building materials and tools.
The museum also features an extensive scientific hand library that perfectly complements the collections. It serves as an offsite learning location for school classes, although practical activities for children are currently not offered due to insurance coverage.
For research into regional history and craftsmanship, a research station with electronic devices and a large reference library is available. This provides diverse insights into old crafts and times gone by.
